Dear Symposium's participant,

thanks for registering to ISAP's first symposium on suppression of resistance. We have put together a fine program where all leading experts of ISAP and other societies will speak. We hope you will enjoy the symposium and gain a lot of new information. Realistically though, we have to be aware that there is not much truly solid science in this field and especially only for a very limited number of classes of agents.

But the symposium will clearly summarize what we know and need to know by summaries by the chairmen of the sessions as well as a final discussion. That discussion which brings together the leaders in the field will definitely be a highlight of the symposium to remember.

We also think that the hotel is of a size that creates a nice atmosphere. Personnel is friendly and we are not in room 356, somewhere in the catacombs of bloodless Mega - hotel.

We would be pleased if you also decided to stay for the "Bavarian Dinner" where we will have rich Bavarian food and hopefully many well-humored people. Some protagonists of a good sense of humor will certainly contribute with their "dinner speech".

Also think of participating in the ISAP - educational workshop the next morning: www.isap.org .

Have a safe trip and see you soon in enchanting Munich. Pray for good weather and you will love that city in the "Free state of Bavaria".

Fritz Sörgel

Final program (as of March 30th, 2007)

Convenors: Fritz Sörgel, George Drusano, Hartmut Derendorf, Johan Mouton, Alisdair MacGowan

What we knew before.
What my presentation added ?
Speakers are encouraged to show in their final slide how their talk improved the knowledge on PK/PD of resistance development and its suppression.

At the end of each session chairmen will similarly summarize the essentials in the presentations and how the presentation improved our understanding on the PK/PD of resistance and its suppression.

The allocated time includes discussion that should be five minutes.

# Note: this is not a symposium of either ESCMID or ISC.

19:20 o´clock: "Bavarian dinner"
Dinner speaches - Historic and present concepts on development and prevention of resistance

Not all be taken seriously, time for good humor and self irony, e.g. of previous misconceptions in anti-infective pharmacology.

Presentation by Fritz Sörgel "Paul Ehrlich - Magic Bullets and the first description of resistance ("Arzneifestigkeit") to an antibiotic in 1904 - serious presentation.

Fee for dinner: 35 Euros (contains a maximum of half a liter of good Bavarian beer (Hacker-Pschorr); excessive use on own payment (--: )

Additional Information

Note that there will be no formal lunch.

The registration fee does include two vouchers for either coffee or mineral water at a reduced rate as well as a free sandwich. The hotel has a restaurant and the Main Train Station across the street has a lot of opportunities to get an inexpensive lunch.

Also note where you are chairman.

DO CONSIDER

There will be the highly respected workshop by ISAP the next morning. Plan to attend and get further insights into the field of PK/PD of anti-infectives. (www.isap.org)
